Reflection on Civil Procedure I
Honestly, Civil Procedure I is one of the subjects that I feel anxious of because it needs a lot of professional skills. We have to to know how to read and analyse cases, how to accurately apply the Civil Procedure rules, legal writing and grammar skills, and the most I'm worried about is speaking and presentation skill; it's kind of foolish to admit this but even though, I'm already 23, I still get nervous speaking in public or even in class but yeah, we gotta do what we gotta do.
I have learnt a lot by the end of the Semester 1 for the Civil Procedure subject. I think the most valuable thing that I have learnt during the semester for Civil Procedure 1 is team cooperation. I have never thought team cooperation is THAT important until I have seen it with my eyes especially in Civil Procedure subject and I'm so thankful for fate put me in a group of wonderful people, my firmmates. They are so kind, helpful, thoughtful, and supportive in every way. I don't think I can manage this semester subject without them. I love how we managed to work together especially in a distressful situation like when we made the mistake in the Notice of Application that the Court had to stand down, I love how the members keep calming each other down, how we motivate each other that we can fix it, how we apologise and forgive each other for our own ignorance and mistakes.
In the early semester, I was quite amazed when the lecturer introduced us the MOOC system as a new way of the lecturers giving lectures and it is more accessible where we can watch the videos any time and I think it benefits well for auditory students specifically. I also love how the lecturer taught us drafting cause papers by showing the samples and showed us the mistakes or errors in the samples so we can learn better and not repeat the same mistakes.
Moving to the part where I was most anxious of, the PTCM and hearing sessions. During the first PTCM, I felt so agitated and I was so grateful it did not take a long time *nervous laugh* and for the second time where we had a hearing for striking out, I got so nervous and I have been saved by my first counsel, he spoke all the parts that actually we discussed on the night before and we had distribute our parts but I was so anxious and nervous that I know I could not deliver my arguments well so thank 'you'. Then, for the third hearing, I was very dyingly anxious and fearful of making mistakes (where we had) and panicked and I just want to thank the judge because he was the one who helped me a lot when it was my turn to deliver the arguments though I know I failed miserably :') However, with those experiences, I have learnt that speaking skill is very important and you must take initiatives to improve it by way of practice, practice, and practice. The way you speak, choice of words, your body language affect your overall argument and affect the listeners even though maybe you have more strong and valid points than others. Not to forget, learn how to calm your heart and clear your mind so you can speak smoothly and concisely.
In conclusion, the experiential learning combine with problem based learning that have been used in this subject are good and should be applied in other subjects starting from our first year's. The MOOC system is very refreshing and helpful but it will be more convenient if we are told and have access on it earlier before the opening of the semester if the lecturers had posted the videos during that time. Whatever it is, I'm grateful for what this subject had taught me and gave a lot of experiences and I hope I can improve myself better.
Thank you for everything.
Sincerely,
